3/24/89 Paradise, Boston, MA (Rvwd 3/95) Hey, this show occurred
almost exactly 6 years ago! I don't think this show is listed in the HFB,
but it was played, because some of my friends asked me whether I wanted
to go. This was/is my very first Phish tape (the quality is B+, about,
so not toooo bad). It is not a complete set or even MikesGroove (the Hydrogen
is just cut out!!), but it was my first tape, so it has special value.
Unfortunately, the Mike's Song and the Weekapaug aren't anything that intense.
Very standard opening to the MikeS, but the jam segment has a raw energy
that is really dark and ominous. It's very solid, but there is nothing
fancy or special about it at all. The Mike's ends after about 7 mins, and
Hydrogen is completely cut out on this tape. Weekapaug is really fun in
the beginning, and Trey quickly launches into a climbing, gorgeous solo
that is well-fed by all the others in the band. It is ONLY 5 and a half
mins long, which is really very short for a Weekapaug, but it is just soooo
sweet. It was this Weekapaug that turned me on to Phish (not to mention
the Possum and YEM on this tape), and is why I finally made it to the Paradise
to see them for my first show on 10/6/89 (which you will find in the HFB
as both ??/??/88? and ??/??/89?, I think.. if someone has that, I am still
looking for a copy.. I have 700+ hours available for trade). My first Phish
song was the Possum at this show (from this tape). This Weekapaug is not
a version to die for by any stretch, but it holds sentimental value for
me. C-.
