4/11/91 Carleton College, Northfield, MN (Rvwd 5/95) I could
have been there for this fun show... but Carleton was not to be... Prison
Joke, Destiny Unbound, etc. The Split has some groovy stuff in it, taboot.
Same old Mike's Song, though, folks. Plods along. Page does more mimicking
of Mike's main theme, however, which makes it interesting. Trey does the
typical off-key sustained, distorted stuff during this MikeS, but nothing
else of special merit. He doesn't stray into strong fillers, as he has
been known to do. Very plain. And short. Ends at around 5:45, at which
point H2 kicks in, and what a H2 it is! This beginning of H2 is spectacular,
with Trey and Page screwin' around a little in the beginning before heading
into the theme, in a fashion that I haven't heard them do since. They play
triplets on their instruments for about twenty seconds or so before heading
into the main H2 theme. ANyway, for this reason alone this H2 is special
and more interesting than usual. Week kicks in at about 8:23 and seems
a bit faster than it is ordinarily. Mike's beginning solo is really, really
funky and strange, in comparison with all the others I've reviewed to date.
It is NOT quick and snappy; rather, he gets into a steady, funky sorta
lick that goes downscale more than upscale. Trey is spectacular as usual
on this Weekapaug, but nothing jaw-dropping Fucking Amazing occurs (for
Phish). C rating. Really dug the H2 in this 'Groove! Ends at 13:51
total time, so not that long..
