I have pity on any Colby students in 1991 who missed
this one! (a big hello to Mike Niven, DAT-taper
extraordinaire..)  Not because it was a good show, but
because it was an EXCELLENT show.  Look at this
setlist.  Did Golgi really open the 2nd set?  Someone
who was there?  My tape has Harry starting the
second, which, I think, would be the only time this
ever happened (?).

Onto the MikeS.  "Bucket of Lard" or something to
this effect is uttered by Trey before and in the
beginning of the MikeS.  It is a very strong, well
jammed MikeS for those from 1991 that I have, with
very few of the typical, deliberate off-key moments.
It is still a "normal"  length for the period, and is
certainly not especially more profound than normal.
What this means is that it is a well-jammed MikeS,
but there are no special teases or special jams of
import, that really stick out.  H2 kicks in at about
6:27.  It is a beautiful, solid version.

Weekapaug comes in at just after 9 minutes (typical
for 1991), and Mike's opening solo is astounding,
moreso than usual for this period.  He's quick and
snappy as he often is, but this opening jam really
reveals his masterful prowess on the bass.  He really
shows off his dexterity, here, not to mention his
creative talent as a musician.  Trey wastes no time
igniting the jam segment, and he takes it fiercely
and immediately to a high level.   It is a very
active jam segment (Trey leads o'er the top of the
groove, as usual).  There's much, MUCH less
sustaining and a lot more outright jamming than
normal in these first few minutes of this
Weekapaug.   At this rate, I'd be shocked if this
version went much more than 15 minutes!!  Mike, Page,
and Moses DeWitt maintain the groove flawlessly,
while Trey continues to wail.  No teases, no spacey
bullshit, and very little sustaining (which gets
tiring), make this a thoroughly well-jammed Week, and
certainly an outstanding version for 1991.  I still
do not believe it is "better" than 11/21/91 or
12/31/91, on account of originality, length, and
Bewilderment of Jamming.  Total time for this
Weekapaug is about 15:38.  5.5 rating (C+/B-).  The
Highway at this show is really inspired, taboot.
