10/21/95 Pershing Auditorium, Lincoln, Nebraska

I'm going to try and make this as brief as possible so I apologize to
those brothers and sisters who like to read reviews that tend to turn
into short stories.
Pershing sat about 8,000, had GREAT acoustics and allowed for a better
than average light show. No central parking lot, not even a very big
garage close by, oh well. Cops and security were both pretty relaxed,
considering it was, after all, Nebraska. Anyway, on with the show....

First set highlights; Tweeprise to open shocked me but I loved it. This
really is great placement and a powerful opener to what would be a
powerful night.
Chalkdust...longer than average and a bit faster, too. Trey was right on
early, didn't miss a lick.
Guelah Papyrus...standard. As always, the choreography on stage is the
best part of this song, though I do like the small changes they've made,
they just need to make more of them!
Reba...I've always liked this song and it was also a good, long version
but to my disappointment, no whistling.
Wilson...short and standard. They just don't have as much fun with this
song as they used to.
Cars, Trucks and Buses...this is the third time I think I've seen this
new instrumental and I like it more each time, fun melody.
Kung Chant...this is just the opposite, I like it less and less the more
I here it. One fun part was hearing Trey and Fishman trying to keep from
laughing toward the end.
Lizards...standard, aside from what I thought was a longer ending Trey
solo than usual but i t might just be my mind playing those tricks on me
again.
Strange Design...GREAT new Page song and I like this song more and more,
also, each time I hear it. Second only to Free as far as new songs,
IMHO.
Acoustic Army...this was very good music and all I have to say is,
people, please be QUIET during the acoustic and "w/out mic" songs.
Good X, Bad X...this is when the show got HUGE!!! I mean these guys were
jammin and Trey especially was just smokin. One of the best I've ever
heard including tapes! And it didn't slow down at all building and
building right into...
Tweeprise... to close the set. Again, great placement as opener/closer.

Second set highlights...
2001... great opener, could have been longer. All I kept thinking toward
the end of this song was "please play Bowie, please don't play Maze!"
Bowie...I got what I wanted and it was a solid version. Nothing too
spaced out but long enough for me.
Lifeboy...contrary to the belief of some, I really like this song, but
nothing too special tonight, good placement. BTW, if you want to bash a
song bash Rift!(sorry)
Sparkle... VERY, VERY, VERY FAST ending!!! The best part, though, was at
the end of the song when I could hear Trey call "Stop, 1,2,3,4..." and go
right into ...
YEM...one of the better YEM's I've seen lately and the vocal jam was
crazier than ever. My compliments to the lighting crew here as well, to
whom I think we give too few kudos. GREAT job guys!
PURPLE RAIN...the crowd was really into this and were rewarded with a
smokin version, only time its been played this year, I believe!
Hood...very good, long version and on the heels of Purple Rain and a
couple of Beat It teases, the crowd was really into it. I haven't said
much about Trey but he was seriously on fire all night and during Hood he
went off on his percussion kit for probably almost 5 whole minutes.
Suzie...oh well, I had to come back down to Earth eventually and a good
Antelope was probably too much to ask after this set, but a Coil would
have worked also. Anyway, standard version, Trey did fuck up some lyrics
towards the beginning but I'd never hold that against anyone.
ENCORE...Highway to Hell...only my second ever so I enjoyed it a lot and
it was a good choice considering how powerful the whole show was. Again,
Trey was on, it was definitely his night.

Overall, this show really impressed me from the Tweeprise opener/closer
to the great covers(Good X, Bad X, Purple Rain and Highway) all in one
show to the entire 2nd set songlist and from cover to cover there was
nothing but extreme energy from the band as well as the smaller crowd.
On our infamous,
tell-me-everything-you-can-about-the-show-with-one-ridiculous-number
scale of 1 to 10, I give it a near-perfect 9. It really was that good, so
grab the tape if you can. I'll have a copy within the week(possibly the
video, as well) so feel free to e-mail me for a trade. See you at the
next one. Have a good time and 'you enjoy yourselves'
                                              keep groovin'
