Subject: Submission for the 4.22.94 Township show in Columbia, S.C.
For years now I have been seeking a copy of this show which apparently does
not circulate in AUD or SBD form. I managed to get a copy of a tape of part of
the show that apparently came from a hand-held walkman of some sort ( the copy
however was exceedingly poor ). This was the first Phish show I ever show. I
was a senior in High School in Greenville, S.C and a high school buddy of mine
got me and a few friends into this band. My friend Chris Landreth had a sister
who was going to school at USC in Columbia and he got her to get us some
tickets to the show. I had some friends in Columbia as well so my friends and
I from Greenville decided to all cruise down together and rendezvous with my
friends in Columbia for some pre-show partying. My friends ended up taking
some really potent acid and we lost track of time arriving at the show a few
minutes late. Upon arriving at the township Auditorium I remember there being
a large crowd of heads hanging out on the outside trying to get in. When we
got inside the place was pretty chaotic and I remember a lack of security and
what not. People were openly smoking, and partying. It was very hot inside and
not many people had shirts on. The show itself was pretty intense. Although I
can only remember a few of the songs that stood out I remeber the show
generally having a strong energy. Alot of dreadies dancing around and Page's
dad came out at the end. The Phish scene was much smaller at this time. This
venue only seated under 3,000 people and tickets went for a mere $15. The lot
scene was ! ! about as big as one man selling grilled cheeses and another guy
selling n2o. 1994 was a very strong year for phish though. Many good shows!
