Subject: Review for 5/18 (I noticed there wasn't one)
A friend of mine won the KFOG contest to see Phish in the studio with 20
other people, but she couldn't go, so she was fantastic enough to let me
take her place. It was a recording studio, so there was no stage. Everyone
just gathered around the band. When they came out to play, it was really
amazing because you were SO close. I stood five feet away from Trey and
just watched him jam. They were recording it for a broadcast later that
evening, and I knew they were promoting the new album, which was fine with
me. All of the songs were cuts from Farmhouse that I saw all last Fall
Tour, and I just expected album versions. Being that close, I couldn't care
less, because I was just so psyched to be there. However, they hardly
mailed it in. They ripped apart both Sand and Piper. Trey was doing crazy
windmill strokes in Piper, and I was RIGHT THERE. I got freaking chills
down my spine and had goosebumps from there on. After the show, they came
into the audience (walked three feet) and mingled with the crowd. It was
absolutely phenomenal-what a great bunch of guys. I thanked Trey for
Florida and talked about the show. I had previously thought of a million
things to say to my favorite guitarist if I ever met him, but I couldn't
remember a god damn thing once I did. I pretty much just sat there and
listened, just being grateful to have met him. Mike, Page and Jon were
extremely friendly as well. We all gathered around them for a photo shoot
of the band and the phans, and then had to go. Needless to say, I was on
cloud nine for the rest of the day, and thanked my lucky stars for the
opportunity. I can now die with a smile on my face.
