Subject: Trey Creek review
Alright people, this was my first Trey show and I went in with little or no
expectations, maybe even underrating the band because of the live stuff I
have heard from the winter tour. Well, I came to realize that I deeply
underestimated them. I was juiced for Medeski and got pumped for the show
after hearing the soundcheck that was ripping. Also, I listened to some
downloads the night before and started having different thoughts. Enough
rambling, on with the review.
Acting the Devil- Good solid opener, nice bouncy beat with the horns throwin
it in your face.
Push- Was pretty juiced to hear this tune, and it exceeded any limitations i
thought it could have. The crazy start/stop stuff was insane and trey
started going a little nuts which was nice. mix of rockin and funky.
C'mon Baby- Straight up solid, good choice.
Last Tube- Not much I can say accept HOLY SH**!!!! this blew my mind and
was really pumped when they went into it.
Instrumental- Nice beat, godd reggae tune and good slow down from the
volcano we just got hit with in last tube. folks behind me thought this was
small axe. good tune.
Alive again- insane, solid, tight as hell. Great first set.
Burlap- sweet funky intro by trey very solid, good choice for the 2nd set
opener to keep everyone movin. trey starting the funk vibe.
At the BBQ- first time i have actually heard this tune so i wasn't positive
on what it was, nice tune though. good placement before.....
Sand- This sand was so sick, funky, nice bass thumps by tony. rediculous
how tight this was. everyone almost hit the ground when medeski flew off.
words can't really nail this sand, get the tapes!!!!!
Mr. Completely- nice and rockin. good tune.
Windora Bug- Sweet placement, tight as hell. Tony was great. nice jam in
the middle.
Plasma- I was pretty pumped for this one, i really dig the intro and it was
also very solid and tight and i loved the segue into....
Simple Twist Up Dave- i am so glad we got this, great 2nd set closer. this
is one of the new tunes i am most impressed with. funky, jazzy, rockin.
good funked out jam to end with. the theme of the 2nd set was funk.
Mozambique- Great Encore, people were saying the encore's were lacking but i
say the hell with em', this was great. trey, horns, and medeski dancing
around. it was great, very entertaining good way to finish a great night.
This show opened my eyes to this band a lot more. I joked around and said
that was better than a bad night of Phish, but i think i am more serious now
that i think about it. Also, i brought my dad who is very into the dead and
all, but has never experienced phish or trey except what he hears from me.
lets just say he has a whole new outlook on trey and phish. he and i agree
that this show was just very intense and extremely entertaining. screw the
same setlists and all that, its a show worth seeing

Subject: Trey Deer Creek Review
Well, yesterday was a hot sunday in more ways than
one.
I was pretty stoked to see Trey do his magic at the
creek again, but I had NO Idea what to expect! Not
one dissapointment to mention. Ok lets get goin with
this review.
Set I:
Acting The Devil-WOW! This was a perfect opener, for
some reason it had me thinking Police Academy, you
know the one where they go to Miami Beach, that one, I
think It's 5, oh well, great great song!
Push On Til The Day-I'd always wanted to see this song
live, I loved it on Conan, and this version did not
dissapoint. The horn lines were fantastic, kudos to
the entire horn section who just tore it up whenever
they were on the stage.
Come On Baby-Love Neil Young, Love Trey, nuff said.
->Last Tube-Ummm.....ummmm.....H0LY MOSES!!! Last
Tube
is one of the best songs Trey has written in 5 years,
Loved it when I saw Trey at the Murat in 99 love it
now. Again with the horns, :) :) :)!!!!!!!!!!
Instrumental-So Trey wants to be a reggae legend!
COOL BEANS!!!
Alive Again-All I remember about this song is my mouth
hanging wide open. This is quite possibly the best
first set I have ever witnessed by any band.
First Set-Five stars. Every song Perfectly placed.
Every note perfectly played.
Set II
Burlap Sack And Pumps-Yeah, this is where it's at!
At The Barbeque-So Trey wants to be Count Basie?
RIGHT ON!!!! Me and my friend Trent, who I stubbed
down into the pavillion for his first time seeing
Trey, was so happy to hear this song, even though he,
and myself at the time, could have sworn that it was
an old school 30's or 40's jazz tune.
Sand-YES!!! Better than any Sand I've ever heard
Phish play, the horns are the perfect touch! Trent
really wanted to hear this one, and he was pretty
stoked to be in the pavillion for it. There's so much
I loved about it, the horns, the false endings, the
keyboard explosion at the end, perfect above par sand!
->Mr. Completely-Being Sandwiched between two of my
favorite Trey solo songs, I don't remember much about
it. I do remember that it was really really rockin at
the begining!
->Windora Bug-THIS IS WHAT I CAME TO SEE!!!! Loved
the jam, loved Tony's little shot at Medeski, this was
a WIndora like no mora!
->Plasma-Again, nothing bad to say about this song,
Great song again.
->Simple Twist Up Dave-Well...ummm...I almost have my
full opinion formed by this part of the show, but I'll
wait for the encore. Simple Twist is an explosion,
awesome stuff here. Which leads us to:
E: MOZAMBIQUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just learned how to play the guitar parts and most of
the horn lines on my guitar not too long ago, so I was
pretty stoked to hear this one. I love how everyone
dances around the soloist, I was having the most fun
during this song, the very begining had me thinking a
cross between Manteca and Buried Alive, Russ Lawton
and Tony Markellis are a PERFECT RYTHYM SECTION!!
OK, I LIKE THIS BAND JUST AS MUCH AS PHISH! There I
said it, I don't know if Anyone will agree with me,
but that's my honest opinion.
Well, I hope to see tapes of this one floating around
real soon. Take it easy y'all.
Be carefull
Adam

Subject: 7-22-01 Trey Review
Had a terrific time this week with Phil last Sunday, and Trey last night at
Deer Creek. Last night's show was pretty hot. The band is much tighter
than during the winter tour. Medeski did a terrific job without
overstepping his bounds...He gave the band a more headhunter's funk style at
times, and just pushed the band in general.
Though the first set did give up Push on till the day, one of my two
hopefuls for the night, I thought trey was a bit laid back. The rest of the
band was really on, and it seemed to me he was having a good time watching
them, rather than give us a rippin short solo here and there. I don't mean
I was wanting the 35+min extended songs...but if you listen to the tape, set
I and set II are different in regards to how much trey stepped out. All of
the solos were given out to the band. By the second set, though, he filled
us up. Burlap sack and pumps ripped as a set II opener, and simple twist up
dave was a terrific closer.
The lot seen was medium sized and everyone looked like they were having a
great time, as we were. Can't wait for this tour to start circulating!
peace,
Chris Mescia
