What a siiiick, must-have HORNS show, if not just for
the Fee-> Funky Bitch, and the groovy Birthday jam
w/GCH (for Chris the lightman). Probably my favorite
GCH show. The Tweezer at this show was much better
than 7/21/91, I think, because the horns really
grooved on it. Gears has a great solo in the first
segment in the verse before the jam segment comes
in. The jam is very eerie and psychotic (moreso than
usual), and although the horns are virtually absent
during the actual jam, this version still smokes
7/21, if only because Trey and Mike and Page seem
more active. No space, no dissonance, and no hints of
any other tunes (no bullshit, in other words), this
is a solidly jammed and improvised Tweezer that
really works and sounds pretty good. Again, there is
no final lyricless return to the theme after the
dying out of the jam segment. (they dropped this
ending for good, I guess) The Tweezer Reprise (again
3 minutes) with the horns sounds incredible. This
combo gets a 6.0 rating in my book ... and it is long
for a 1991 Tweezer at 10.5 minutes. (one thing..
were any of you out there at this show? the crowd
noise is incredible during the Sweeet Adeline.. I
mean, it sounds as if NO ONE shut up during it..;)
