Subject: 7/23/97 Atlanta You Enjoy Myself

YEM's opening is standard. Pre-Nirvana segment isn't very long by
current standards, but is pretty nevertheless. Nirvana at 3:08. I
loove this section of YEM.. Mike's little solo-section is good. Mike
plays many more notes than usual -- thoughtful and intriguing solo.
The pre-charge section is good, too! Trey nails and sustains the
second Note...

"Boy" at 6:26.. actually, Trey does not scream "Boy" but lets the
crowd do it. (this hasn't happened very often in YEM history, fwiw)
MGS/WUDMTF segment is groovy.. good noodling from Page and Trey. A
little mooooog from Page, too. Tramps jam at 8:30. Cactus doesn't
simply give the signals for the tramps moves, but is pretty active..
Trey starts chording rhythmically along with the groove around 9:30.
Good stuff. An unusually upbeat tramps jam segment -- Page plays well
on the hammond, too, of course...

Jam segment begins at about 11:10. Mike and Page basically drop out,
and Fish backs off -- it is just Trey quietly noodling, like many
versions from the last few years. Page teases the "Jeopardy" theme
while Trey teases a melody/theme that I know I have heard somewhere
before but I can't place it.

Crowd starts clapping along to this very silly "jam." Sounds almost
like something you would hear in SOAMule, at 12:40.. very goofy,
light-hearted "jam" in my opinion. Trey plays pretty well in here
(lots of staccato'ed notes). Trey also appears to employ some sort of
effect (that I can't name). Fish picks up the beat and the crowd
cooperates, clapping faster... and faster. At 14:08 Fish comes back in
on drums at this somewhat frenetic pace.. this goofy theme/melody is
still going on (I can't name it.. what the hell is this from!? I'd
swear it is a quote of something!).

At 14:41 Trey just blurts out WUDMTF, and the others join in. Mike,
Page and Fish are still toying around with the aforementioned melody,
and all of them are belting out the WUDMTF lyrics to the tune of this
goofy, silly melody, and it yet again picks up in pace. I'm sure this
was very amusing at the show (crowd goes wild). There's certainly
never been a YEM like this one!! :)

Trey comes back in on guitar and the whole band is madly repeating the
aforementioned melody.. faster and faster, until it all blends
together into a climactic, raging mess around 16:45. Out of this mess
segues a rockin Rocky Mountain Way.. (Fish kicked out the drums for it
before Trey started playing the chords for it). Trey drops the key
into something a bit closer to Rocky Mtn Way's key. They sing the
first verse and a chorus, jam a little bit, and then at 20:11 Trey
just starts up Chalk Dust, teasing Rocky Mtn Way in the opening. (it's
not that tight of a Chalk opening)

Well, this was a weird goofy YEM.. I wasn't very amused, but it is
still worth a better than awesome rating given its VERY
unusual and original nature, imo. There's certainly no other YEM jam
segment like it. B+ rating.
