Very strong Jim, Halley's, Scent, plus a good Jam ->
Eyes of the Maker with the Dave Matthews Band as the encore. A very
reasonable opening. The pre-Nirvana segment contains
some pleasant repetitive noodling from Mike, spacey effects from Trey
and Page, and lots of chatter from the damn audience
(this is an FOB apparently). Still, a very delightful pre-Nirvana section.
Nirvana at 3:22. Decent Nirvana section.. Mike's
solo-section around 4:06 is melodious and quizzical.. but uncomfortably
unremarkable. Pre-charge is typically great, and Trey
jams well on and around the first shot at the Note. The second shot
at the Note at 6:13 is sustained quite well. "Boy" at 6:48.
WUDMTF segment rather tame and plebeian. Page teases Mission Impossible
a wee bit, though, before the tramps segment
opens at 8:58 (signals from Mike.. on dem tramps). Page's noodling
is enjoyable, but fairly laid back. Mike funks out rather
nicely, though, after about 10:10 or so. Page lets loose a bit around
10:30.. Jam segment at 11:05 opens with Trey letting out a
little noodle.. but then, a single low note on the 'doc.. Very tame
opening. At 12:15, Trey starts singing "Catapult" (he also turns
on that weird effect that he uses a lot in the Bangor Tweezer.. that
metallic kinda goofy warbly effect). Trey starts noodling using
this effect.. Page is on the clav. Mike is just accompanying rather
basically, along with Fish, before a true Groove kicks in
(finally) around 13:20 or so. Still, not much of jam yet.. Trey is
melodiously noodling, but isn't getting terribly passionate, until
around 14 minutes or thereabouts. And he's still fairly laid-back.
Trey gets into a repetitive theme around 14:20 that sounds
familiar (I've heard him entertain this theme in YEM before). Nothing
special, though. Around 15 minutes, the jam is into
Reasonably Typical Groovy YEM Jam Segment mode.. nothing outrageously
awe-inspiring occurs at all.. At 15:30, the B&D
segment effectively begins (there's some remainder from Trey's guitar
in the intro). Mike funks out rather nicely with Fish after
about ten or fifteen seconds.. Mike employs some watery psychedelic
effect in here, too.. drippy/trippy/funky.. He jams quite
well, but nothing unusually profound (Fish is really raging in here,
though, in all fairness to him!!!). Cut to side B.. doesn't sound
like anything is lost, really. Closing WUDMTF segment at 17:25 and
Mike and Fish continue to funk out for the lyrics portion..
Vocal jam kicks in around 17:45 and Fish fades out.. Sounds at first
like they are vocalizing on a phrase of some sort.. I can't
make out what is being said, however. Great vocal groove develops at
19 minutes -- a true vocal jam!! One could actually
dance to this! =^] Gets more typically weird within 40 seconds though..
and by 20:30 it is just standard harmonizing... (standard
good harmonizing) Sigh. Some snoring noises around 22 minutes, not
to mention a really quick, almost "RedRum" chant... at
around 22:15 this crazy marching scary jam develops, that is --> just
CRAZY!!! ;) Really a killer vocal jam ending.. amusing as
all hell!! Lots of hysterical laughter from the audience. "Hom-Nee"
is audibly heard.. ;) Total time in the vicinty of 23:17.. a very
long, highly strange vocal jam. Were there any other people in this
vocal jam? This was really crazy.. B- rating, but only
because of the vocal jam. This version would have received a C/C+ easily
otherwise, even with the Catapult. Not that
remarkable at all, outside of the fantastic Vocal Jam, in my opinion.
