n00b100 Trey just tears this version a new asshole during the mid-verses jamming, and then plays some of the sweetest and most sympathetic riffs post-verses before segueing neatly into Piper. A great version from a masterpiece of a Set 2.

n00b100 Quite decent musically, but loved (by me) mainly because it sandwiches a triumphant What's The Use?, from what was a *great* year for What's The Use?.

zarathustraz This jam is the birthplace of the climax style that would become pretty common a couple years down the road, once Trey got more comfortable with his Echoplex and had the Mu-Tron effect to throw in the mix, as well. Check out Carini from the following night for this Steam's sister jam, and then check out all the big jams from the Dicks 2016 run. You'll see what I mean. They started here.

n00b100 Yeah, I wrote the jam chart entry and all that, but I'm starting to think "monstrous energy" was an understatement on my part. 2013 saw Phish at their most powerful on stage, and this is a prime example of that. One of the highlights of the superb NYE 2013 run.

markah My review of this debut from a review I posted on June 11th, 2011: Steam is pretty flippin’ cool. When it first started, I thought it was 7 Below for about 3 notes, then I immediately thought, “oh cool, they’re playing ‘The Way I Feel’ from Treys solo band.” What it turned out to be was neither of those, but rather a debut of a pretty excellent tune that I would like to hear again as a landing point for killer jams. Slow & groovy with some cool lyrics and a very cool sound effect (which someone said was a china boy cymbal? I’ve heard those, and I’m not so sure that’s what this is…) The lyrics are maybe kind of medieval in that we’re hearing about horses and towers (castle towers, I imagine) and chasing wolves. I’m looking forward to hearing this song jammed out even more.
